Sultry...and An Advance Book Giveaway

So, how is your summer going? After a really late start to summer here in New York, the temps and humidity finally are where they should be, so it's hot and sultry. I love that word --- sultry. There are some words that are so descriptive that when you say them you can visualize what they mean. When I read or hear "sultry," I see dewy sweatbeads glistening on my forehead. Wonder if you have any words that make you feel like that?

This month we are offering a special book giveaway. We have five copies of THE A-LIST by Zoey Dean, which the publisher describes as GOSSIP GIRL goes to LA. Interested in reading a copy? FAX us a note at 212-246-4640 or send us a snail mail note at Teenreads.com, 250 West 57th Street, Suite 1228, New York, NY 10107 with your name, your snail mail address and your parent's signature (necessary as you are giving us mailing information about you!) We'll choose five winners at random from all the entries that we receive by Friday, August 8th. So, get moving!

Teenreads.com is mentioned this month in a magazine called Better Homes and Gardens in an article with all kinds of information about teen book clubs. If any of you readers are reading this newsletter after finding us in that article --- welcome!

For many of you who are headed back to school in August, these are the last weeks of summer vacation. Enjoy!

Have a great month...

http://www.randomhouse.com/teens/readerscircle/
Want to start a book club with your friends? Now there's a website and a newsletter that tells you how to get started --- Readers-Circle.com. Here are details...

What do you do when you're reading a book that is so good --- so provocative -- that you just have to talk to someone about it? Why not do something about it? A book group is a great way to bring friends together to share your love of reading and inspire great conversations.

Wondering what to read? We have found a program called Readers Circle that has 18 books that are perfect choices. No matter what your reading preferences are --- contemporary fiction, humor, mysteries, history, classics --- you'll find a Readers Circle book to suit your taste.

What makes Readers Circle books special is that there's a Reader's Guide in every book (we also have them online for you right here at Teenreads.com). Perfect for book groups, this guide provides intriguing discussion questions, revealing author interviews, in-depth author biographies, insight into the writing process and recommendations for further reading.

There are 18 titles to choose from!

Tell Us What You Think: PLEASE DON'T KILL THE FRESHMAN
http://www.teenreads.com/HarperTempest/HarperTempest.asp
Your opinion matters to the publishers at HarperTempest. Each month they are going to share a not-yet-published title with us that they'd like to hear YOUR thoughts about. It's your chance to read an advanced reading copy of a book (known as an ARC) and tell them what YOU think! What could be more fun than a chance to preview a new book and then share your opinion? It's your chance to be a trendsetter!

This month's book is PLEASE DON'T KILL THE FRESHMAN by Zoe Trope, which is due in stores in September 2003.

I CAPTURE THE CASTLE: Now in Theatres
http://www.capturethecastlemovie.com/
The brightly witty and adventuresome story of seventeen-year-old Cassandra Mortmain is now in select theatres. Cassandra (Romola Garai) is an aspiring writer who strives to hone her writing skills by filling journals with sharply funny yet poignant entries about her family who live in not-so-genteel poverty in a ramshackle English castle. Candidly chronicling the great changes that take place within the old castle's walls, especially those of her beautiful sister Rose (Rose Byrne), Cassandra begins revealing her own first descent into love when she meets the two young American men who inherit the estate (Marc Blucas & Henry Thomas).

"Charming and Elegantly cast! Wonderful performances by Romola Garai & Rose Byrne. Brings out the charm and warmth of the original book."
--Mark Adams, Hollywood Reporter
